about the artist
Colleen Kornish (she/her) is an American Illustrator working out of the Hudson Valley, and an alumni of the Fashion Institute of Technology’s BFA Illustration program. She uses a mixture of traditional and digital media with a strong emphasis on craftsmanship to create paintings and characters with unique stories to tell.
She is inspired by literature, nature, and polar history; which she studies independently. Colleen most enjoys working through the lens of portraiture and historical illustration.
Colleen’s work has been featured in the Webby nominated What We Do in the Shadows Fan Art Gallery (2022), The Society of Illustrators’ Student Scholarship Show (2023), and multiple issues of Creative Quarterly (CQ 63, 66, 68). She spoke at Terror Camp 2024, presenting her research "Anything but Grotesque": How the Franklin Bodies Have Haunted Creatives through the Centuries; and she will soon be featured in the upcoming first issue of New Polar Times, a magazine celebrating the heroic age of polar exploration.
